DA PHENOMENA, TIDE

Stage: Vecer stage
Time: 04.07.2006 at 21.30

DA PHENOMENA:
Anze Langus Petrovic – Dagi (bass, vocal)
Mate Brodar (guitar, vocal)
Ivo Rimc (drums)

Da Phenomena is a new, uncompromising boy duo. Uncompromising because these two boys, known as Da Phenomena, have been professional musicians for many years and have managed to avoid the artificial hatcheries of numerous wannabes – “Pop stars”, “Idol”, “Be a star” workshops. They have created themselves by playing in studios, through their studies, the street and the stage. They have been professionals since their teens (Mate since he was 15, Dagi since 14). Mate – vocals and guitar. Dagi – bass guitar and vocals. Mate, the bright and the strict one. Dagi, the dark and the soft one. Mate, an undergraduate soon to acquire his degree at the Graz Jazz Academy. Dagi, a self-taught musician, who grabs hold of the bass in the fifth grade of primary school and, driven by a hunger for music, replaces school with the stage. “Fatal love”, as they unanimously say (whatever that means), happens in the band of Tinkara Kovač. They pick up each other’s scent in next to no time and foresee that together they will “move the world”. They perform with the leading names of the Slovenian music scene until they identify themselves with Magnifico’s Turbolentza. It is with this crew that they travel around Slovenia, Italy and the former Yugoslav countries, while they experience “the high and the low” of the Eurosong contest in Tallinn with the Slovenian representatives, Sestre.
Somewhere in between, they exchange glances: the same taste, the same passion, the same craziness, and the same common denominator – “It is time”. It is time for Da Phenomena. For the last year, when they have not been performing or travelling, they have been hanging out, thinking and creating music and lyrics. At the beginning of the year, they shut themselves in a studio with the producer Iztok Turk, where they played all the instruments and sang the lead and backing vocals. The result of their work is a new record, which does not have a name yet, and their first single, which has one – “Nočem te nazaj” (I Don’t Want You Back). At every attempt label their music, no matter how innocent it might appear, they just sigh and roll their eyes, saying “we have created music that we ourselves would like to listen to...”

“I’ve run into a person who has turned my life up side down. And that’s Mate,” says Dagi.
“At the first joint concert with Tinkara Kovač, I met Dagi and it was then that ‘the love began’”, says Mate.
Da Phenomena is the result of their love and their music, of their love for music and their music from love.

TIDE:
Kevin Koradin (guitar, vocals)
Peter Kokotec (guitar, vocals)
Matej Batelic (bass, vocals)
Gregor Jakac (drums)

Even though TIDE is relatively new to the Slovene music scene, they are already considered as a welcomed refreshment to it. The four musicians gave it a thorough thought before deciding on a name. They chose Tide as they have every intention to stir up the Slovene music scene.
The music played by Tide is a modern version of somewhat heavier rock, equally drawing from the treasury of hard rock, modern rock, grunge and melodic punk, whereas their lyrics are in English.

Tide is a new band on the block although most of the guys have been around for a while. To be more precise, since the early 90's.

Kevin Koradin was the lead guitarist and songwriter for a band called ''Revolver'' where together with bass player Matej Batelič- Giovanni they've been forging heavy sounds for more than half decade. Peter Kokotec was playing in a punk band called ''Valter brani Sarajevo''.

In 1998 Kevin left Slovenia for Amsterdam / Holland to work as a studio musician and gain new experiences. In Holland he met Mikkel Brink, a hot shot danish drummer with whom he's recorded several demos alongside Japanese bass player Kenji Hino.
Later that year Kevin made a trip to Copenhagen to meet up with Mikkel who just got back from a tour in Japan. For a week they talked about forming a band while spending long nights drinking beer. In need of a bass player they brought in Giovanni from Slovenia and joined forces in what sounded like an explosive rock trio.
This was the beginning of tide.

The guys recorded several demos and then left for the USA to play some gigs. Throughout the summer they endured the heat in South Florida during hurricane season. After a short trip to New York city they headed back to Amsterdam to start recording what was going to become their first record.

Once the record was finished Mikkel got homesick and returned to Denmark for good. In the fall of 2004 Kevin came home to Slovenia to visit his parents and in the process bumped into and old acquaintance of his, Peter Kokotec. This wasn't going to be the usual vacation.

Peter was also looking for a band. After hearing the songs Kevin and Giovanni recorded in Amsterdam, he was ''in'', ready for the gig.
However, there was only one thing missing, a drummer.

Giovanni knew a talented young kid who was only 19 but exactly what the guys have been looking for. He passed the audition in 10 minutes. Gregor Jakac was to become the new drummer.

Most of the summer was spent rehearsing and getting ready for whatever was coming to them.

Soon afterwards they were offered a deal to release their first CD »Seven Days« for CPZ Records in Slovenia. Their first video for the song ''Release My Gun'' was shot with AVK Zavod (Tomi Horvat and Miloš Radosavljevič) in September 2005.

Without going on forever on how, when, where and who did what, Tide is inviting all the music loving youngsters and elders to embark with them on this journey. Let's rock!
